Unexpected Blessings
It’s been one of those weeks. To be accurate, it’s been two of those weeks. You know, when you have company visiting, the house is a mess and it’s one of the busiest times of the year at the ministry I serve with.
My youngest sister-in-law was in town and she was a great help with taking care of the baby. However, my house was not anywhere close to my standards of company cleanliness.Nothing bothers me more than a dirty house especially when people are coming to visit. She never complained and willingly went to work on my dishes that have been piling up due to a wrist injury I suffered several weeks back. It was great having her in town but I’m still mortified over the dirty house.
During her visit, my husband came home from work with a cold (from which he recovered rather quickly) but not before lovingly passing it on to me and our son, William. I am mostly better now but William is having a miserable time of it. Stuffy nose, cough and fever; no fun for anybody, but especially not when you’re too little to understand.
I was supposed to teach at a workshop on Saturday but the little guy’s fever went up to 100 so we had to scramble to make sure everything was covered. I have some great ministry partners. I really love what I do and I miss getting to participate in things. (More about the ministry in another blog post).
Also, I’ve been looking for baby gates recently. William will be crawling before we know it and I wanted to find the best price I could. I searched multiple thrift stores to no avail. I checked various places online as well but could not find any great deals.
I was getting discouraged and thinking I’d have to buy the cheapest gates stores carry. The gates would be perfectly adequate but they weren’t what I wanted. I really wanted the baby gates that had a swinging door that latches so that I wouldn’t always have to be stepping over them. I have knee problems and sometimes the pain is excruciating. Having a gate I could just walk through would be such a blessing. The only problem with those gates is that they are rather pricey.
Several days ago, I asked God to provide us with the baby gates. I should have done that before I started looking but I didn’t. In one last attempt, I checked online again. There was a pair of the exact gates I wanted being sold by a family who was moving. My husband went and picked up the gates this weekend. The total cost came to the price of one of the cheap gates at the store.
Looking back, these past two weeks haven’t been so bad. I had time to visit with my sister-in-law and also got some free childcare and housework out of it! I’ve had more time to spend with my husband and son…which meant a Pride and Prejudice marathon over the weekend.
And I saw God answer a prayer in an amazing way.
How about you…how has God blessed you recently?

I would give my left arm for some free child care and housework right about now!! Maddy and I both have a cold too so I can sympathize with you. I hope you both get to feeling better soon! By the way, I am so excited about your blog! Yay!!
